Welcome!
Here's what we're all about

at Somerset View

Somerset View Guest House is the product of a vision that there are some places that create simply magical and truly homey experiences. Our goal is to not only provide accommodation; it is to provide an experience that truly makes our guests feel that they are home away from home.

The Faces Behind The Feeling

Carl & Emsie

Meet your hosts, Carl & Emsie Pohl. Married for over 30 years and with a shared passion for serving people, you'll be hard-pressed to find a more thoroughly charming and caring pair. Whether it's Carl's genuine friendliness and attention to detail or Emsie's elegant manner and delicious home-cooked food, they set the tone for a warm and truly relaxing atmosphere for any guest to thrive on. Their meticulous efforts can be seen in every corner of Somerset View Guest House from the placement of the furniture to the choice of tiles on the floors; but their greatest pride is the guests that have become loyal friends through the years.

Brian & Jenny

The very existence of Somerset View Guest House must be credited to two very special and inspired people: Brian & Jenny Lee. Having seen the need for accommodation that is more like home than anything before it, they have been instrumental in providing the resources to meet that need. Deeply involved in the fine details of the planning, building and management of the new venture that is Somerset View, Brian & Jenny are determined to provide guests with an exceptional experience that is so much more than what money can buy; and they're just getting started!

Now let's go back to the beginning...

The birth of the guest house started with the purchase of a spacious house in the upmarket suburb of Heldervue in Somerset West, Western Cape, South Africa. Carl & Emsie already had a detailed plan of what they wanted the finished building to look like, but despite their best efforts, construction would be delayed for almost 2 years as plans awaited city council approval. The images below give a small idea of the extent of work that was done in getting the house to its current state.

...to see how far we've come.

Now enough about us...
